A Sip of Spain

052008_chefgarcia.jpgLooking for a delicious way to kick off the end of the work week? Then head on over to Rice Village for a special treat: The fabulous El Meson Restaurant is hosting a luscious wine tasting dinner on Thursday, May 22nd, with special guest Jose Touriño, Jr., the well-known Spanish winemaker.

The pre-dinner reception begins at 7:00 p.m., with the dinner itself beginning in the Havana Room at 7:30 p.m. Each course (and there are five!) will be paired with a separate Spanish wine: two chosen from Touriño's winery -- a family-run vineyard which dates back to 1900 -- and three chosen from Tinto Figuero, a vineyard whose vines were planted in 1930 and which still produce grapes to this day.

And if you aren't interested in wine? The five courses that El Meson will serve include such succulent morsels as guinea fowl, lamb chops, langostino lobster and venison backstrap, so you certainly won't go home hungry. Chef Pedro Garcia will even be present to serve and explain the various dishes, while Touriño will discuss the pairings of the wine with Chef Garcia's expertly-prepared food.

The cost of the dinner is an all-inclusive $95 (which includes tax and tip), not a bad deal for a lush spread, exceptional wines and the chance to chat it up with one of Spain's most famous winemakers. Just make sure you have some cash handy for the valet. To make reservations, head over to El Meson's website or call 713-522-9306.
