We’ve been getting into some good new music lately, and enjoying some old favorites. Like we do every month, we’re sharing those favorites with you on June’s edition of the Houstonist iMix.
Nada Surf has come a long way since their 90’s high school ode “Popular.” We start off the iMix with a track from their latest pop masterpiece Lucky. Another track from The Raconteurs sophomore album that we love is the more somber “Old Enough.” And, even though The Kooks’ sophomore album came out recently, we’re still digging the Brits' “She Moves in Her Own Way” off their debut.
Our nostalgic side starts with some 90's surf-rock: Southern Culture on the Skids ("Little Debbie, Little Debbie, I'm a comin on home, baby!"). Also, some classic hip-hop from Mos Def, alt-rock classic from Stone Temple Pilots (in celebration of their upcoming concert at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion later this month), the late, Houston native singer/songwriter Chris Whitley, and (as always) a fun one from Cake.
A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a song or two that they're listening to now. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.

Can I get that quarter out from under your pointy-toed boot, all I want is just one more oatmeal pie. Or something like that....
