A Divine Way to Start Your Weekend

061208_divine.jpgIt's that time of year again! No, not Christmas -- but close.

The Saint Arnold gang are releasing their Divine Reserve No. 6 in stores and pubs today, but don't expect it to be there come Sunday afternoon. If you want to get a pint (or a six-pack!) of their heavenly brew, you'd better act fast.

Each Divine Reserve is a single batch of beer, brewed only once and with a different recipe each time (hence the numbered batches). The latest release, Divine Reserve No. 6, is an American Barleywine, described by the brewers as "a big, malty, hoppy barleywine" where "intense flavors meld together to create a well-balanced big beer" with "malty sweetness and spicy hops" and "a rich, creamy mouthfeel."

Most stores and pubs will sell out of the Divine Reserve rather quickly, so make sure to grab some before it's all gone. And if you want to enjoy this Divine Reserve in, say, winter or even next summer, we have good news for you! According to the brewers, this batch will age very well.

Where can you get a pint of this elusive barleywine? Your local off-license should have a six-pack or two. And some of our favorite pubs around town are receiving their shipments today and tomorrow: the reliably-awesome Ginger Man; Hans Bier Haus, home of bocce ball and a great jukebox; McGonigel's Mucky Duck, so you can get your folk music fix while sipping a pint; Richmond Arms, where a pint goes great with the Euro 2008 finals; and the underground heaven that is Valhalla.

Several other pubs around town are also getting a keg or two. Call your favorite spot to see if they're in on the Divine Reserve action. And if you hit up one of the above pubs tonight only to freak out because they aren't stocking the No. 6, calm down. Some places are having to wait until Friday to get their shipment in.

Houstonist will be out there enjoying the Divine and the balmy weather this weekend. Will you?

I will not be enjoying the Divine this balmy weekend, most St. Arnold beers give me a terrible headache (even if I just have one or two) - I rarely drink them. The only one that is semi-OK is Lawnmower.

I hate to rip on St. Arnold's, being homegrown and all, but it's not all that. I do however, like their packaging, their tye-dyed car, their pint glasses and the fact they are Houston based.

But that's just like... my opinon... man.

Thank you for letting the beer cat out of the paper sack, now, I'll have pure hell procuring my own glass. I love St. Arnold's - and consuming it, rather than "trucked" beer (or, heaven forbid, boated beer) makes you a locavore and green (you may either give yourseld a quarter carbon credit, or a gold star on your toothpaste chart).

yourself, I mean, please pardon my fat fingeredness.

Mmm...beer cat...

I am so looking forward to this hoppy deliciousness and one day bringing in enough six-pack holders to the tour to get that tie-dyed, fine piece of car myself!

No one should ever "rip" on St Arnold's. Awesome beer (personal fav. is the Texas Wheat), spiffy tye-dye logo, wickedly pimped out old Bentley - not to mention the people themselves, who are cooler than an eskimo sucking a lollypop.

I for one will be hunting down the aforementioned Divine Reserve with all the tenacity of a hungry Bear Grylls. Way to Represent, St Arnold's!
