Set In Stone

061608_punkducks.jpgIf you're anything like Houstonist, you love Hermann Park (or, at the very least, you recognize that the little statue of Sam Houston which is prominently displayed on our logo actually resides in Hermann Park).

Whether you have fond childhood memories of riding the train to the Zoo, rolling down the hill at the Miller Outdoor Theater, and spending hours in the Hall of Paleontology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science, or more recent memories of quiet walks through the Japanese Garden, catching Shakespeare In The Park on a hot summer night, or enjoying a cheap round of golf, nearly every Houstonian has something they love about our city's most well-known park.

Houston: It's Worth It and the Hermann Park Conservancy organization have partnered up to get Houstonians to share these memories with the rest of the city just in time for park's centennial celebration. As part of the $15 million renovation of the Lake Plaza, HIWI and the Conservancy are asking people throughout the city to contribute a few words about why Hermann Park is "especially unique, surprising, or just generally charming." The most eloquent, witty, or just plain offbeat entries will be etched into stone for a public art project that will be on display at the park. Other chosen entries will be displayed on LCD screens at the entrance to the park during the celebration, which is slated to take place in March 2009.

You have until July 1st to submit your testimonial to Hermann Park. It must be thirty words or less, so keep it short and sweet. Don't miss your chance to have your words set in stone (or at least displayed on fancy flatscreens for all to see)! Entries can be submitted here.
