The Dude Abides
Sometimes there's a man; sometimes, there's a man.
Jason McElweenie of The Low End Theory is hosting the first annual Houston Lebowski Bash this Saturday, June 21st, at the Caroline Collective to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the day that man arrived on the scene.
If you're a Big Lebowski-aholic, an entered Big Lebowski apprentice or simply a neophyte who's never heard of The Dude or The Jesus and simply wants to have a good time, then head out to 4820 Caroline Street this Saturday, starting at 4:00 pm.
Lebowski parties are a tradition dating all the way back to 2002, when the first Lebowski Fest was held in Louisville, Kentucky to commemorate the release of the cult classic film starring Jeff Bridges and John Goodman, The Big Lebowski. Since then, the Lebowski Fests have expanded to cities across the United States, as well as all the way across the pond to England, where the Brits hold The Dude Abides parties every year in London.
At a typical Lebowski party, you'll find celebrations of all things Dude: bowling, beer, friends and possibly rugs. At the Houston Lebowski Bash, there will be free beer, courtesy of the generous folks at Saint Arnold; free music, courtesy of Vinyl Ranch (playing from 4:00 p.m. til 7:00 p.m.) and The Tontons (on stage from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.); merchandise booths selling all things Lebowski (and some things non-Lebowski, yet still cool); and a free screening of The Big Lebowski beginning at 8:00 p.m. Oh, and did we mention that it's all FREE?
In addition to all of these fine festivities, there will also be a costume contest, so gentlemen, dig up your finest rayon bowling attire or your rattiest sweaters and T-shirts, and ladies, start working on your best pre-breast-augmentation-disaster Tara Reid styles and prepare to be judged! Of course, if you're looking for a unisex outfit, you could always come as the rug.

As a veteran LFer (3rd Annual & Austin), it pains me to miss The Bash. Well done, Jason et al. See y'all at the crawfish boil.
At least I've got the Creedence.
