Houston Music for the Weekend of July 3rd-6th, 2008
We here at Houstonist hope that everyone’s ready for a rowdy and raucous weekend bursting with musical merriment, because there should be no excuse for you people to be sitting at home complaining that Houston never has anything fun to do. Honestly folks – if you can’t find some way in which to enjoy yourselves this weekend, then this city needs to check its collective pulse for signs of life. From pop, R&B, and rap, to rock, hardcore, and metal, there is music aplenty on the streets of H-Town, TX. Represent!
Thursday, July 3rd, 2008:

We’re not sure what we’ll be choosing to attend this evening, but it’s going to be good, no matter where we find ourselves on this night. The Geto Boys reunion at Warehouse Live will most likely have a vast percentage of Space City’s rap, hip-hop, and DJ royalty in attendance – this might be a “see and be seen” event, but the music should take center stage. Granted, if you’re like our crazy roommate, you prefer to banging your head over nodding it, so make your way over to The Meridian for the intense metal stylings of Adult Swim’s own Dethklok. But, if you choose to indulge in a bit more traditionally rambunctious musical fare, Fitzgerald’s will be celebrating the 4th with a host of folk, alt-country, and Americana-influenced acts.
Geto Boys at Warehouse Live
Metalocalypse: Featuring Dethklok, Chimaira, and Soilent Green at The Meridian
Americana 4th of July Celebration: Featuring Mike and The Moonpies, Jonathan Terrell, Stephen Reynolds Band, Whiskey River Revival, Dead End Cowboys, Texas Contraband, The Trian Woodburns, John Garza Jr., Wolf Explosion, Leo Rondeau, and more at Fitzgerald's
Mission Control: Featuring Mic Skills and DJ Remix at The Backroom

In case you found yourselves stuck at home and bored on Friday night (though there’s no reason that you should have), we here at Houstonist want to encourage everyone to get out and experience this city! Andrew W.K. brings his hard-partying self to rock out at the Keene Street Warehouse with some of the best and brightest rock groups that call Space City home. Walter’s plays the host to four engaging punk acts, The Meridian will allow you to enjoy a more than little heavy with your metal, and on top of all of that, SHRP corrals some of the biggest names in dirty, outlaw, Nashville-will-never-own-us country music. Do something!
Andrew W.K.,The Octopus Project, Winning, Andy Dixon, Bring Back the Guns, The Watermarks, The Riff Tiffs, O Pioneers!!!, Papermoons, American Sharks, Limb, Welfare Mothers, The Jonbenet, Lisa's Sons, BLACKIE, Shoe, and Damon Allen at Keene Street Warehouse
The Casualties, Time Again, Molotov Compromise, and Riot Up Front at Walter's on Washington
The Summer Slaughter Tour: Featuring The Black Dahlia Murder, Kataklysm, Vader, and Cryptopsy at The Meridian
Willie Nelson's Family Picnic: Featuring Merle Haggard, Ray Price, Los Lonely Boys, Asleep at the Wheel, David Allan Coe, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Billy Joe Shaver, at Johnny Bush at Sam Houston Race Park
Sunday, July 6th, 2008

If SHRP wasn’t tired and worn out from all of the boot-scootin’ and beer-swillin’ that occurred at Willie’s Family Picnic yesterday, then it should surely be tired after thousands of teens mosh, thrash, dance, scream, sing, yell, and emote all over the grounds. Yes Houston – it’s time again for the Vans Warped Tour to make its annual visit to our city, complete with the requisite number of popular punk, emo, metal, and hardcore bands. It will seem as if every Hot Topic store in the greater Houston area will have exploded all over SHRP. Parents and hipsters beware!
Vans Warped Tour 2008: Featuring Against Me!, Anberlin, Angels and Airwaves, As I Lay Dying, August Burns Red, Broadway Calls, The Devil Wears Prada, Evergreen Terrace, Every Time I Die, Family Force 5, Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Norma Jean, Reel Big Fish, Relient K, Say Anything, The Western Civilization, and more at Sam Houston Race Park
