Looking for a place where you could go way to work off all those hot dogs you're bound to cram down your big American mouth on Friday? Spend Saturday, July 5th jumping around to the sounds of Jeremy Jay and the Don't Fight It DJs at the Caroline Collective for a post-4th bash.
Described by Pitchfork as "Peter Pan, or a left-coast Jonathan Richman" Jay has been raking in the accolades of late, surrounding last year's Airwalker EP, and his latest, first full length album, A Place Where We Could Go.
However, one of our favorite descriptions of Jay, comes from Soma magazine:
His simple pop concoctions evoke Joy Division if they had done soundtrack work for John Hughes. Indeed, his songs, like Airwalker’s brilliant cover art, exude a cool that’s been studied. Not by corporate cool-hunters, mind you, but by someone keen to evoke his heroes.
How can Joy Division and John Hughes in the same sentence NOT equal greatness? We're intrigued. So we'll be there.
The show kicks off at 7pm with Jay performing outdoors, followed by Houston's own Don't Fight It. Saint Arnold beer will be in plenty, and Caroline Collective's art space, ArtStorm will be extending it's hours to close out the Patrick Turk Exhibit.
