Friday Afternoon Video: Names For Figure Skaters

It's been a while since we had a Friday Afternoon Video on Houstonist, and we decided that the Fourth of July was as good a Friday as any to bring back this time-honored tradition.

Ray Wylie Hubbard is a Texas country music institution and a Houston icon (even though he's from Oklahoma). If you haven't seen him in concert -- whether in an intimate venue like McGonigel's Mucky Duck or the main stage at tomorrow's Willie Nelson's Family Picnic -- you're missing out on a true legend and probably a rousing, alcohol-fueled version of "Up Against The Wall Redneck Mother" (which is Hubbard's song -- not Jerry Jeff Walker's).

The man is a storyteller par excellence, with more fascinating and rambling tales under his belt than would ever fit in a single concert, so he always keeps you coming back for more. This afternoon's video illustrates that point perfectly.

Allow us to present Ray Wylie Hubbard singing his classic country hymn, "Screw You, We're From Texas":

Take that, Kix Brooks (now that's a figure skater name if we've ever heard one...).

Have a safe and happy Fourth, y'all!
