The Vans Warped Tour is coming to town this Sunday, July 6th at Sam Houston Race Park.
Since 1995, shoe manufacturer, Vans, has sponsored this all day music and extreme sports festival which in the past has boasted up to 100 bands in a single show. In 1998 the festival went international with dates in Europe, Japan, Australia and Canada.
This year, on the Houston stop of this festival, over 40 bands will be performing. A few of the bands scheduled to perform include MC Chris, Cobra Starship, Bedouin Soundclash, Reel Big Fish, Relient K, Street Dogs and many, many more. The line-up continually rotates throughout the tour, so show up early to make sure you catch the bands you want to see. In addition to music, extreme sports will be well represented with skateboarding, rollerblading and biking. There will also be vendor and food booths as well as an autograph booth.
If you think that the Vans Warped Tour is all music and extreme sports, here's how the tour makes a difference. The Warped Eco Initiative. This year, the Van's Warped Tour goes green and socially responsible by teaming up with EarthEcho to educate fans on environmental and social issues. Sixteen organizations are on tour along with the bands and include, Music Saves Lives, Boarding for Breast Cancer, Invisible Children, Action for Animals, Unite the United, Rock for Health, Punk Junk as well as local nonprofits and chapter organizations of Amnesty international, Green Peace, Lifebeat, VolunteerMatch.org, and DoSomething.com. These organizations and the Vans Warped Tour will be helping to make a difference at every stop.
So, gather up your kids, their friends as well as the neighbor's kids and head down to Sam Houston Race Park on Sunday for an all day festival of music, extreme sports and environmental and social initiatives.
