Houstonist iMix: July - Summer songs!
After almost two months of 90+ degree weather, we thought it was time to share some of our favorite summer songs on the July edition of the Houstonist iMix. For some reason, summer and the 1980’s go hand-in-hand for Houstonist. Maybe it’s because we were wee ones at the time without a worry in the world, or maybe 80’s music was just more fun in general. Either way, we have our share of summer songs from that decade: early B-52’s classic, The Clash, Don Henley’s appropriate “Boys of Summer,” and a few guilty pleasures (The Outfield, Bryan Adams).
We have some favorite summer songs from this decade, too. The Flaming Lips have their own summer them song from Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. Canadian indie-rocker's Islands and Britian's M.I.A.'s also hail from this decade. A few from the 90's (Counting Crows, Dodgy), but the most widely-known, not summer specific, but always one fits a party in July is Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl."
A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a favorite summer song or two. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.

80s music was more fun. It's a simple, scientific truth.
