In 1984, a concept became reality when the East End Show, now simply known as "The Big Show", opened and a juried exhibit of Houston artists became an annual event. Originally sponosored by the East End Progress Association and held at the Lawndale Art Center's original location, the exhibit has grown into an annual open-call exhibit (juried, did we mention juried) to showcase artists whose work would possibly go unnoticed without this venue. This year, over 407 artists submitted 1,017 works for consideration. Guest curator, Aram Moshayedi selected 95 works by 60 artists for this years show. Running from July, 11 - August, 22, The Big Show kicks off tomorrow with a public reception from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. - awards will be announced at 8:00 p.m.
