It's summertime, summertime, sum, sum, summertime and here are a few watermelon facts followed by some watermelon haikus.

• Watermelon consists of 92% water and 8% sugar.
• Americans eat over 17 lbs of watermelon each year, Houstonist eats double that!
• The first recorded watermelon harvest occurred nearly 5,000 years ago in Egypt.
• Watermelon's official name is Citrullus Lanatus of the botanical family Curcurbitaceae. It is cousins to cucumbers, pumpkins and squash.
