Houstonist iMix: August

As we prepare for a tropical storm, we thought it’d be perfect timing to give you some new music to listen to on your MP3 player (you do have enough batteries, right?) – the August edition of the Houstonist iMix.

This month, not only do we have fresh music from favorites Beck and My Morning Jacket, but we also bring you a cut from Houston rockers The Tontons EP Sea and Stars. Other new music includes singer/songwriter Justin Vernon (otherwise known as Bon Iver), DJ Andy Butler’s dance project Hercules and Love Affair, and Portland’s indie-pop band Blind Pilot.

We have a few classics from decades past here, too: the 1970’s (Al Green), 1980’s (Big Country), and 1990’s (Jamiroquai). Last year’s Wilco album still churns on our turntable, too, especially “Impossible Germany.”

A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a favorite summer song or two. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.
