H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of August 7th-10th, 2008

Good afternoon Houston. I hope that this installment of H-Town Rock finds you completely recovered from the non-event that was Tropical Storm Edouardo. Sure, we may have received a great deal of rain, but Houstonist is still quite befuddled as to why everyone freaked out and closed down everything in town on Tuesday. We’re guessing it’s just another case of better safe than sorry. Nevertheless, since the meteorological madness kept us trapped inside earlier in the week, we’re all a bit stir-crazy for some action. Let’s get to it!

Thursday, August 7th
Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Balaclavas, and The Wiggins at Walter's on Washington
Jon McLaughlin and Micah Dalton at Warehouse Live
The Points, American Sharks, and The Monocles at Rudyard's
Recession Thursdays: Featuring Guitars, Alarma!, The Annoysters, and Lazy Horse at Numbers

Friday, August 8th

With all apologies to the black-clad concert-goers over at The Meridian (well, not really), it’s truly a night for singer/songwriters in Houston. We’re going to suggest that you first head over to Cactus Music in the early evening for Mr. Carll, as opposed to making the trek out to BFE for his show at SHRP. From there, whether you choose to partake of the music of Jimmy, Sonny, or Tody (look at those fun “-y” names!), you’re going to be making a wise decision.

Devil Driver, In This Moment, Within Chaos, Necrofaith, and Vehement at The Meridian
Hayes Carll (In-Store Appearance) at Cactus Music
Hayes Carll at Sam Houston Race Park
Jimmy LaFave and Front Porch Society at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
Paris Falls and Airon Paul Dugas (In-Store Appearance) at Sig's Lagoon
Sonny Landreth at The Continental Club
Tody Castillo and The Wild Moccasins at Rudyard's

Saturday, August 9th

As enticing as it might be to travel the 30 or so miles out to The Woodlands for a curious and unexpected (some might say bizarre) rock/country/rap conflagration, we’re figuring that most of you will probably make your way to The Duck or The Continental Club for some ribald folky goodness. However, if any of you are extra adventurous, we’re sure that there are still tickets for the hard rock show at The Meridian or the hip-hop shindig at Warehouse Live.

Asylum Street Spankers at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
Clint Black at Sam Houston Race Park
Craig Kinsey at The Continental Club
Earshot, Glass Intrepid, Subversa, and Another Day at The Meridian
I'm So Hood, Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, Ace Hood, and Brisco at Warehouse Live
Kid Rock, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Reverend Run at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion

Sunday, August 10th
Hamilton Loomis at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
Kingdom of Sorrow, Soilent Green, Scum of the Earth, and Blind Sanctity at Warehouse Live
Nebula, Totimoshi, and Whorehound at Rudyard's
Seabird at The Meridian
Young Jeezy and Big Tuck at Arena Theatre
