This weekend Houston will hold it's third BarCamp at the Houston Technology Center. BarCamp is an "unconference", or a user generated series of participatory sessions. BarCamps are held all over the world on six continents. Topics covered at BarCamp range from new web applications to open source technologies. Open and free to the public, BarCamp requests that all attendees participate in a session. As the wiki states: "This is called sharing, and we like it."
The name BarCamp references the geek slang term "foobar" and is a complement to FooCamp, an invitation-only unconference held by publisher Tim O'Reilly. Both events are designed to get smart people together to share ideas, a goal that Houstonist thinks is wicked cool [pushes glasses back up nose].
If you are interested in attending BarCampHouston3, you should sign up on the wiki by editing the page and adding your name to the list of attendees. That's so open source we could plotz. Kicking off the event is the Houston Startup Happy Hour hosted this Friday at the Caroline Collective. Grab your geekery and computerness and come join the discussion.
For more information about BarCampHouston visit the event's wiki. General information about what to expect at a BarCamp can be found here.
