Highnote and Lownote Music Benefit

08072008_intersection.jpgSunday, August 10th at Shakepeare Pub there's a benefit that plans to bust out into a full open mic jam. Beginning at 2 p.m., various bands will be playing as part of a benefit forLarry Lownote Johnson (bassist for John McVey) and his wife, Angela Highnote Johnson. Angela was involved in a near fatal accident when a drunk driver rear ended her vehicle and the insurance money is simply not enough. Most artists are "self-employed" and have either personal insurance or none at all. When tragedy strikes, it's time for the community to band together and help out. After all, we've heard the adages that "charity begins at home" and "it takes a village" - it's time to put some money where our mouth is. Admission to the benefit is free, there will be a raffle and food will be served, your donations are very appreciated.

Larry is a grammy winning bassist who's been kicking around in Houston's blues scene for 30 years. He has played with the Tony Vega Band, Diunna Greenleaf & Blue Mercy (when they won the International Blues Competition's best unsigned blues band award), Johnnie Johnson and Percy Sledge. Lownote also played on the Last of the Mississippi Delta Bluesman CD, which won a grammy. He was the original bass player for Bert Wills & the Cryin' Shames from the early '80's to the early '90's and co-wrote the title song on the grammy nominated Mr. Politician CD.

Angela's accident occured on June 9th, and while she is resting and recovering at home, she will require therapy for her injuries for the next year. Further, Larry has been recently added to the heart transplant list at Methodist Hospital. He and his family could certainly use all of the thoughts, prayers and donations you can offer them. The lineup is excellent, so, please make a stop by Shakespeare's on Sunday afternoon.

Here's the lineup:
2:00 - 2:45 Steve the Chief
3:00 - 3:45 One Way Out
4:00 - 4:30 MOJOFROMOPOLIS
4:45 - 5:15 The Mighty Orq

6:15 - 6:45 Sonny Boy Terry
7:00 - 7:30 Snit's Dog & Pony Show

Musicians, come on out and plan to participate in the open mic jam when it kicks off at 9:00 p.m. Volunteers are needed, as are unused or collectible raffle items, please phone Darelle Robbins to assist with either at 832.754.4665.
