Cahill's Patrons Ain't Skeered of Ike

Houstonist has been cooped up in the HQ most of the day trying to sort out how the right blend of tequila and juice for our Ike-a-ritas. We were parched after an extensive day of taste testing and needed a barley pop or two to recover.

We called around to a few of our favorite water holes - including Onion Creek, The Spot Club & The Rose Garden - but none were open. Fortunately, a friend told us that Cahill's was still open and serving.

We arrived to a packed house at the Rice Military dive bar. Every table inside was full as were most of the bar stools. The side porch hosted at least 40 beer swilling locals as well.

Talk in the bar concerned Ike, but few of the talkers were concerned about Ike. Instead, patrons were focused on getting a cold draft beer and a burger before the rains force them into their home, and the impending lack of power leaves them surviving on potted meat and crackers.

If you're in the hood and need a beer, stop by. They'll be happy to see you.

Psst. The Red Lion on Shepherd is open, too, until 2am (pending continued electrical power, that is). :)
