- Electricity: As of last night, CenterPoint Energy had restored power to 750,000 customers, meaning 62 percent are still in the dark; you can keep checking the Chronicle's electricity restoration database and CenterPoint's oddly vague map showing projected restoration dates
- Water: As we noted yesterday, Houston's water is now safe to drink straight from the tap without boiling — but if you live in another area city, check with your local officials about restrictions
- School closings: KUHF is keeping a very up-to-date list of which schools, colleges and universities are closed and when they'll re-open
- Transportation: Metro is continuing to run near-normal service today, though some buses may be late because of road conditions; there's still no light rail or HOV service pending power restoration

- Ike's death toll hit at least 55 nationwide Wednesday; according to the medical examiner, at least 19 of them were in Galveston County
