...not that we're assuming anything about our eleven readers, mind you, but we have exciting news nevertheless.
Christian Lander, the genius behind Stuff White People Like is coming to Houston tonight for a discussion at book signing at the Borders Books on Kirby at West Alabama. Don't act like you haven't seen the website. And don't try to pretend that it doesn't have you pegged. We're easy targets like that.
Homogenous groups of people are prone to blindly and unconsciously prefer certain things and participate in the same activities whether they realize it or not, an affinity which Lander quickly made into a wildly-popular internet meme when he created Stuff White People Like in January of this year. Part self-deprecating comedy, part scalpel-sharp social commentary, the website began keeping a running list of things that WASPs, yuppies and DINKs across America conspicuously enjoy as a sort of collective subconscious.
The list, which began innocently enough with coffee, has now grown to include 111 other things that we like, such as Wes Anderson movies, Whole Foods, standing still at concerts, the idea of soccer, The Onion and appearing to enjoy classical music.
This past July, Lander released a book as a spinoff from the popular website, appropriately called Stuff White People Like: The Definitive Guide To The Unique Taste Of Millions, and has been busily traveling America on a publicity tour ever since. You can catch him tonight at Borders at 7:30 p.m., as he discusses the book, the warp-like speed of sudden Internet fame, and his constant vigilance for new things that white people like.
