He Talk Pretty Tuesday

The reigning king of making money off one's dysfuctional family -- humorist extraordinaire David Sedaris -- returns to Houston tomorrow night for a one-night-only speaking engagement at Jones Hall. Brother of the actress Amy Sedaris (a.k.a. Jerry Blank) and author of the bestselling books Me Talk Pretty One Day, Barrel Fever, Naked and Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim, David Sedaris is the Oscar Wilde of a new era.

His essays, books, plays and pieces on public radio's This American Life capture the fractured voice of the Boomer and Gen X generations with incisive humor and morose wit while managing to remain relevant to younger generations (although Sedaris continually seems surprised that he has teenage and Gen Y fans). And tomorrow night you can catch him downtown as he discusses life, family and his new book, When You Are Engulfed in Flames.

Ticket prices range from $22 for balcony seats to $52 for orchestra seats, but are selling out quickly. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Society for the Performing Arts at 713.227.4772 or online at their website. Houstonist's tip for the night: instead of making a beeline for the State Bar, make sure to stick around after the performance for a question and answer session.
