H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of October 30th – November 2nd, 2008

Happy Halloween Houston! Moreover, I hope that all of you enjoy All Saints Day and Dia De Los Muertos, as this looks to be a weekend that’s both fun-filled and quite party-laden. If you do feel up to donning regular, everyday clothes at any point, there are more than a few shows out there that are desirous of your attendance. But whatever you do, make sure you do it responsibly. We here at H-Town Rock wouldn’t want to lose any of our eleven readers over the weekend.

Thursday, October 30th

Is it just us, or does the concept of an Australian version of a Pink Floyd show strike anyone as curious? What makes it Australian? Does the band drink Foster’s the entire time or perform the concert entirely with didgeridoos? Do other nations have their culturally relevant versions of other major rock bands? Is there a Mongolian Led Zeppelin cover band out there? Maybe there’s a Chilean version of KISS that tours on occasion? The thought just boggles our minds.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show at Verizon Wireless
Burn The Boats, Hell City Kings, Dickey Hands, and Jewel Rifle at Rudyard's
Camaro: Featuring American Sharks (as The Cars), Whorehound (as The Stooges), and DJ Castillo at Boondocks
Grace Potter and the Nocturnals and Erick Baker at Walter's on Washington
Los Lonely Boys and Alejandro Escovedo at House of Blues

Friday, October 31st
JackOLantern.jpg Well, well, well – the day has finally arrived, the day when it’s entirely permissible to dress in the most outlandish attire possible and find it desirous to have people openly gawk at you. It seems that Rudyard’s, Boondocks, and Walter’s all have themed shows in the house, so it’s up to you, dear readers, to determine which local bands you’re going to support before you go drink yourself silly at your friend’s house party. In case you want to know where we’re going to be, you just might find us enjoying the music of The Goods and Hollywood Black, but stranger things have happened.

Clandestine at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
Creepshow II Halloween Party: Featuring Hollywood Black, The Goods, and Slivered at Rudyard's
Fischerspooner at Rich's
Horror Business: Featuring Fredster, Damon, and Bobby DJ at Boondocks
Long Live the Dead: Featuring Dannzig (Misfits/Samhain/Danzig Tribute band), The Monocles, News on the March, Wild Moccasins, and Young Mammals at Walter's on Washington
Scary Storytime: Featuring listenlisten, BooTown, and Scatter at Caroline Collective
Willie Nelson and Mary McBride at House of Blues

Saturday, November 1st
BeachBoys.jpg To those of you who have regained the full use of your faculties and facilities after last night, there are a lot of options around town tonight. Walter’s has a fistful of hardcore acts, Fitz’s is hosting some quality Texas alt-rock, outlaw country will be present at MOT, Tony Romo’s (actually successful!) ex-girlfriend will be at Reliant, and The Beach Boys will be in Galveston (irony anyone?). Personally, unless Brian Wilson is in attendance, it’s not worth the trek to Moody Gardens, so we might throw our typical modus operandi out the window and brave Fitz’s with our crazy roommate.

As Eden Burns, Carry The Storm, Before...There Was Rosalyn, Torsectomy, and Feast of Dead Animals at Walter's on Washington
The Autumn Film and Krista Vossler at Fitzdown
The Beach Boys at Moody Gardens
Carrie Underwood and Little Big Town at Reliant Arena
Day of The Dead Rock Stars at Record Ranch/Cactus Music
The Hates, The Delta Block, Anarchitex, and Room 101 at Rudyard's
Jerry Jeff Walker and The Flatlanders at Miller Outdoor Theatre
Project H CD Release Show: Featuring Nothingmore, Mother's Anthem, Dremt The End, and Sun Machine at Fitzgerald's
Texas Johnny Boy and Milton Hopkins at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
Willie Nelson and Mary McBride at House of Blues (this show is sold out)

Sunday, November 2nd
The Pink Spiders, Cruiserweight, Mondo Primo, Another Day, and The Reign of Kindo at Walter's on Washington

Newton, you kill me. :D

WHAT?!?

Isn't that what you thought when you saw "The Australian Pink Floyd Show?" There simply must be more acts like this around the world!

I have a new mission in life -- locate a Mongolian Led Zeppelin Show.
