Before you go and tie one on for Day of the Dead festivities tomorrow night, why not swing by the Yale Street First Saturday Arts Market in the morning and help support our local arts community? This free monthly market in the Heights offers an incredible selection of art in every medium, along with musical acts Duke Jones & Friends in the morning and Fahl & Folk in the afternoon.
This month's selection of artists includes Andre Gandin, who specializes in creating art from discarded metal; Paige Woodring and her enchanting abstract oil paintings; John Delafield, who creates beautiful stoneware pottery; and many more. Houstonist's favorites include handmade scarves from Totally Tactile (perfect for the fall weather!) and Zach Meskel, a 10-year-old boy whose profits from his handmade greeting cards go entirely to charity.
For an entire list of artists and vendors, visit the First Saturday Arts Market website. And if you see Houstonist hanging out by Coury's ice cream truck, come by and say hello!
