This month’s Houstonist iMix is jam packed with some great tunes from the past couple of years. It starts out with one that was a crowd favorite a couple of weeks ago at the Ben Folds concert at Warehouse Live, from his latest CD Way to Normal. From another new CD, Dear Science, we included the latest from New York’s TV on the Radio. Also from the Big Apple are The Virgins, who just released their debut album a few months ago. We decided to include their new wave tinged “Rich Girls.” Ryan Adams & The Cardinals also recently paid a visit to Houston and included their first single from Cardinology, “Fix It,” in the set list.
From last year, we have European actress/pop singer Charlotte Gainsbourg, L.A.’s Rilo Kiley with “Silver Lining” (you may also want to check out lead singer Jenny Lewis’ new solo album), and from Wasilla, Alaska (where Tina Fey Sarah Palin served as mayor for several years) we included the indie-rock band Portugal The Man’s “My Mind.”
A few other favorites to mention: Hem’s country-tinged cover of Fountains of Wayne’s “Radiation Vibe,” Australian alt-country artist Kasey Chambers “Not Pretty Enough” from five years ago, Van Morrison’s classic “Moondance,” the Beastie's “Paul Revere” from their debut album, and we end the iMix with another classic from Joy Division.
A reminder on how it works: Houstonist contributors submitted a favorite summer song or two. Then, we threw our tracks together and created our own iMix on iTunes. So, if you have iTunes on your computer, you can now download our iMix, or, if you’re afraid of commitment, you can download the tracks individually.
