Houstonist Bartender: El Presidente

110708_barack.jpgRegardless of your political beliefs, America has a new president-elect. Hey, it was bound to happen, there was a vote and the incumbent is termed-out and not so popular, according to the "recent polls", whatever water those hold. So, Houstonist is proud to bring you a politcal-minded beverage this fine Friday afternoon: The El Presidente. It is not our fault it's a fruity drink, there are no politically-based implications here, it a lovely crisp blend of lime and pineapple, with plenty of liquor for either drowning your sorrows or celebrating your victory. Just don't be a dumbass, pretend you have no car!!

The El Presidente

2 oz. light rum (like Bacardi)
1/2 oz. fresh lime juice (it is citrus season, after all)
1/2 oz. pineapple juice
splash of grenadine

Place all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake like mad. Strain into a chilled martini glass and sip. Repeat as often as is necessary and responsible, after all you're an adult.

As we are fond of letting you know, you can sugar the rim. A simple lime slice, or cherry would make great garnish as well. If you do select the cherry, impress the apple of your eye by tying it into a knot with your tongue, no illegal use of hands!
