In 2003, Houston was named as the 2011 host of the NCAA Final Four and today they were awarded as the host city for the 2016 Final Four.
This will be Houston's third Final Four; the first was in 1971 at the Astrodome which saw UCLA win its seventh national title with a defeat of Villanova 68-62.
Houston has been a hot-bed as a sports host recently. The Bayou City has hosted the 2004 MLB All-Star game, Super Bowl XXXVIII, the 2005 Big XII Championship football game, the 2006 NBA All-Star game and the 2008 NCAA Elite Eight Tournament. Along with the two future Final Four's, Houston will also host the NCAA 2010 South Regional.
New Orleans (Super Dome), Atlanta (Georgia Dome), North Texas (New Cowboys Stadium) and Indianapolis (Lucas Oil Field) were also named as future hosts sites.
