Houstonist is trying to attend all of the not-to-be-missed events around town this weekend, one of which is the Annual ArtCrawl taking place downtown this Saturday in the area formerly know as Frost Town. The event began in 1993 when community artists opened their studios to the public the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Since then the ArtCrawl has become one of Houston's most anticipated annual parties events. This year twenty-six studios throughout downtown and over one hundred artists will welcome the public to explore the artists' creative process and to become more familiar with the happening Houston art scene.
Studios participating this year include Mother Dog Studios, 2315 Studios, and Houston Foundry. Parking is available at the individual warehouses and under I-10 between Main and San Jacinto. Once you get down there you can bike/skate/stumble to each of the studios. A few of the studios will feature live performaces from local musicians, and Last Concert Cafe will be open from 11:00 AM just in case you want to wet your whistle. Artists' works will be for sale, which is bad news for us since we are trying to save our money for holiday gifts. Looks like grandma will be getting that Basquiat-inspired watercolor we have she has always wanted.
