Friday Afternoon Video: Angolan Street Dancing

Last week it was reported that Houston-based contracting giant KBR had been awarded a $6.4 billion contract to build an oil refinery in Angola, one of the world's richest countries in terms of petrochemicals (the US imports more oil from Angola than it does from Kuwait) but one of the poorest in terms of population (70% of Angolans live below the poverty line).

Much of Houston's wealth owes a debt to developing African countries that are rich in oil but poor in everything else. As we alternately cringe and breathe sighs of relief over the fluctuation of gas prices, citizens in Nigeria and Angola struggle daily with problems including sectarian violence, AIDS, civil war and starvation.

But Houstonist doesn't want to be a downer. So we present to you this video, of Angolan children and land mine survivors break dancing to music by Angolan artist Costuleta. Forgive the gratuitous crotch shots. If six-year-olds poppin' and lockin' can't make your weekend, we don't know what will. Via tinyluckygenius.
