For the Weekend of December 18th-21st, 2008
Hello there Houston and welcome to the final installment of H-Town Rock for 2008. Honestly, we have truly enjoyed spending the past seven months with you, sharing all of the great music that can be found in our fair city. We’ve met lots of new friends, seen lots of amazing bands perform, weathered a hurricane, and played in the snow – all within the friendly confines of Houston, TX. With any luck, we’ll see more than a few of you out and about town over the course of this weekend, but, if we don’t, we hope that everyone enjoy themselves over the coming weeks and that you all return in 2009 for more merriment and music.
Thursday, December 18th

We are quite aware that this gentleman possesses more than his fair share of haters and detractors, but count H-Town Rock as a distinct fan of Lil Wayne, and suffice to say, he’s enjoyed a banner year in 2008. This event promises to be jam-packed with all manner of crazy ridiculousness, not to mention the beats, hooks, and lyrics that will flow like (and alongside) wine. It remains to wonder exactly what songs will not make the set list for the evening, because, since Weezy Baby has released two full-lengths, a few EPs, and about five to six different mixtapes in the past couple of years, he’ll need to be somewhat selective in what songs he’ll actually perform. Whatever – we are excited!
Blue Collar, White Xmas: Featuring Jerry Wayne Longmire, Jeremy McComb, and Without a Face at Warehouse Live
Lil' Wayne, Keyshia Cole, T-Pain, Gym Class Heroes, and Keri Hilson at Toyota Center
Friday, December 19th

And so it begins: the next two days are booked solid with the best and brightest in Houston music performing at a variety of shows, festivals, parties, and events. Thus, it’s difficult to make a wrong decision in terms of what you should be doing with your evening. From Something Fierce throwing a party at Walter’s to celebrate the release of their new record to the insanity destined to break loose over at The Mink (seriously, take a look at that lineup!), you have no one but yourself to blame if you are unable to find a way to have fun tonight.
Del Castillo, Vallejo, and Bayou Monster at Warehouse Live
The Last Place You Look, The Vettes, Mechanical Boy, Hey Hollywood, Floorbound, and Dead to the World at Fitzgerald's
Lower Life Form and Duo at Cactus Music
Something Fierce Album Release Show at Walter's on Washington
Toy Drive: Featuring The Riff Tiffs, The Wild Moccasins, Elaine Greer, B L A C K I E, Giant Princess, News on the March, Buxton, Paleo, American Sharks, Death by Texas, Brett Taylor, and Wicked Poseur at The Mink
Saturday, December 20th

As the holiday musical madness extends into Saturday, it would be our guess that the events going down over at Bootleg Studio, courtesy of Ceeplus Bad Knives and his crew, just might enter into Houston legend (as far as holiday parties are concerned). Again, it would seem that there are a great many talented bands and DJ’s gathering for this shindig, but there’s also the Free Press Houston party over at Avant Garden to check out (which is where our favorite barista will most likely be), much less the bands performing over at Rudyard’s and the prog-rock intensity over at The Meridian (where our crazy roommate will be getting his drink on). Come one Houston – let’s do what we can to send 2008 out with a musical bang!
Alpha Rev, Johnny Goudie, and Vicarious Me at Fitzgerald's
Come See My Dead Person, Two Star Symphony, and Whorehound at Rudyard's
Do It Anyway You Wanna: It's Reprogram Multimedia Annual Holiday Party: Featuring Spain Colored Orange, The Factory Party, B L A C K I E, Richard Henry, Yppah, Jeffery Mac, Paramour, Damon Allen, J. Calero, Dan Castillo, and Ceeplus Bad Knives at Bootleg Studios
Free Press Houston Christmas Party: Featuring Satin Hooks, The Eastern Sea, Piano Vines, Nick Greer, Ozeal, Chase Hamblin, and Female Demand at Avant Garden
King's X, Laidlaw, and Jambi's Revenge at The Meridian
