Southern Vampire Novelist Charlaine Harris at the Houston Public Library

010609_CharlaineHarris.JPGAnne Rice may have started it, but more than 30 years later, vampire fiction (Bit Lit?) is still all the rage. Houstonist's little sister wore a Team Edward t-shirt to Christmas dinner, and Let the Right One In is selling out movie theaters everywhere (and is currently playing at River Oaks).

Even HBO has caught onto the craze with their series True Blood, based on the Sookie Stackhouse novels by author Charlaine Harris, and produced by Alan Ball of American Beauty and Six Feet Under fame.

Harris, a New York Times bestselling author, will discuss her books tonight at the Houston Public Library Central Branch. The event begins at 7:00 p.m.

True Blood, based on Harris' Southern Vampire Series, is about Sookie Stackhouse, telepathic Louisiana barmaid and friend to vampires, werewolves, and various other odd creatures. Harris is a native of the Mississippi Delta, and has been a published novelist for over 25 years. She has written everything from ghost stories to murder mysteries to science fiction. Her books have been published in Japan, Great Britain, Greece, Germany, Thailand, Spain, France, and Russia.
