Is Richard Justice on Crack?

If you read sports blogs regularly, you might think Houston Chronicle "journalist" and University of Texas alumnus Richard Justice might have bumped his head often when he was younger. Some of the things he writes are just downright stupid.

Here is an example from today's blog:

If you're a fan of the Coogs or Aggies or Red Raiders, welcome aboard. Texas is your team, too.The University of Texas was born to give our state one university of the first class. Regardless of where you went to school, Texas belongs to you. Texas isn't No. 1 in merchandise sales because graduates are buying the stuff. Texas is No. 1 because people that went to Tech and UH and A&M and other places want to be citizens of Longhorn Nation.

Really, Dick? Do you have nothing better to do than make up crap? Houstonist understands taking pride in your alma mater but this is just ridiculous. This is a perfect example why a lot of people hate UT alums because of arrogant stuff like this. It's one thing to think it but to write about it and say A&M, UH and Tech alums and students are all T-shirt fans? That's just disrespectful and crappy journalism.

Take pride in your university, Dick. Enjoy the win. Enjoy the recent success. But don't make arrogant statements like this. People say the brain is the first to go when old age comes. It looks like the process has been in full effect for Richard Justice for quite some time now.

It's one thing for a local newspaper to allow their journalists to be abrasive for the sake of readership and attention, in entirely another to look the other way while he drags the reputation of the paper into the gutter with insults and arrogance. I canceled my subscription to the Chronicle because I feel like it's given up trying to do anything anymore as a respectable local newspaper. Dick is a big part of that.

He is the biggest flip-flopper I've ever read. This is just a sample of how ridiculous his writing has been over the course of the year. It gets worse and worse.

He always does this, it's just to boost the comments and chatter to make it seem like he's popular when really he's just provocative and not all that interesting or newsworthy. I find it best not to cater to his whims and just roll my eyes and ignore it rather than publicize it more.

I rarely read his blogs and the only reason I know about this is because it was brought to my attention. I had to stick up for my university and call him out.

Even though I'm not exactly the proudest Baylor Bear ever to come out of Waco, I definitely don't want to be a "citizen of Longhorn Nation," and not it's just because that's about the stupidest phrase I've ever heard, either. UT and Richard Justice can suck my green 'n' gold ass.

He's delusional. The people who buy longhorn stuff aren't graduates of A&M, UH, or Baylor. They are either grads of Texas or a Texan not affliated with another college or university who sees UT merchandise as a way to show "Texas pride." (Not UT pride or {shudder} their desire to be part of the longhorn nation.)
