Illustrated Conversation at the Menil
If you still haven't seen what's been called "the most significant collection of work by (Max) Ernst in the country," currently on display at the Menil Collection, tonight would be a good time to stop by.
William Camfield, professor emeritus of art history at Rice University, and Josef Helfenstein, director of The Menil Collection, will discuss the newly-restored Ernst mural, Pétales et jardin de la nymphe Ancolie, which was originally painted for the wall of a Zurich nightclub.
The Menil is the first museum to showcase the mural following it's restoration, along with about 75 other pieces by the Dadaist pioneer.
Camfield, who has written extensively about Ernst, the Dada movement and the birth of Surrealism, will also talk about the Ernst's career.
