"Houston Deco" Book Release Party

011509_decobook.jpg Quick! Name three Art Deco icons in Houston. Well, you've got the Lawndale Art Center. And River Oaks, of course. And, uhhh.

Okay, so Houston might not be well-known for it's Art Deco heritage (unlike, say Tulsa or Miami), but amongst the Gulf Coast Colonial buildings and Folk Victorian homes, a few early 20th century gems remain.

Houstonist editor Jim Parsons has teamed up with David Bush to create a beautifully-photographed book highlighting Houston's Art Deco and Art Moderne history.

The duo will be celebrating the release of the book with a presentation tonight at the Houston Public Library Downtown branch at 6 p.m. The event will them move to the Architecture Center Houston for a book-signing and reception at 7 p.m.

The event is free, and will include and emphasis on appreciation, restoration and preservation of Houston's pre-WWII gems.
