Midget Wrestling: Don't Act Like You Aren't Interested

1809622859_7fa7f8c57d_m.jpg Midget wrestling is a sport with a long, often bizarre history. It reached its apex of popularity in the 1950s, an era referred to as "the golden age of midget wrestling." Stars like Little Darling Dagmar and Sky Low Low performed for sold-out crowds and were even inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame.

Although it is no longer considered politically correct or sensitive to use the word "midget," the sport itself is still going strong, with the term "midget wrestling" continuing to be propagated by the wrestlers themselves. Today, organizations like the Micro Wrestling Federation and Half-Pint Brawlers travel the nation, putting on shows and events for crowds of hardcore fans and amused rubberneckers.

The Half-Pint Brawlers will be performing at the Meridian in a "Psycho Midget Wrestling" match tomorrow night, January 16th. The event will be emceed by Puppet the Psycho Dwarf, a 4'11" comedian who narrates the action as wrestlers like Little Justice The Midget Prosecutor and Madd Mexx The Immigration Sensation take it to the ring.

Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door, with the doors opening at 8:00 p.m. This is not an event that Houstonist would recommend for children or even for the faint-hearted (like us), as the Brawlers warn that the show includes considerably NSFW "entertainment":

Their midget mayhem is pure, unabashed, completely unPC entertainment. They offer drunk midget limbo, midget lap dances for the ladies, comedy, drinking games and of course an all out midget brawl. There is nothing these pint size powerhouses won’t do to defend their titles, including: staple gun death matches, thumbtack matches, broken bottles and much, much more.

So while you won't see Houstonist at the event (which smacks of disturbingly gratuitous violence and seedy, greedy sideshow wrongness), we recognize that this may appeal to some of our readers, specifically the contingent that also listens to Howard Stern and orders Girls Gone Wild DVDs late at night while shotgunning Keystone Lights.
