Blogist: Ask Dr. Ding

Blogist is a new feature in which Houstonist gives a shout-out to Texas-based blogs we enjoy.

012109_askdrding.jpg If you need an interpretation of that recurring dream where you shoot yourself in the head repeatedly, or if you simply want advice on how to tell your hoochie mama friend to stop having kids by different baby daddies, then Houston's own former prison psychologist Dr. Ding can help. A lover of geekery and retro 80s, when she isn't serving up sassy yet ever-so-gentle verbal thumpings to her inquiring readers, Dr. Ding discusses a pastiche of topics including glittery, glittery drag queens and vomit-spewing aliens. But the best reason by far to read Ask Dr. Ding is her GRE-word and f-bomb infused diatribes. Here's a PG-rated sample from a recent post discussing the phenomenon of social media:

Transparency is the much-touted and au courant working model of web-based communication. The Personal and The Professional are all wond'rously comingled in a paroxysm of nerdish imagination each and every time you log in. The private is the public and we all frigging love each other because we ALL have some sort of ill-defined but, like, totally fabulous social capital we're leveraging.

Woo de freaking hoo.

I fail to understand this recursive reified narcissism. I fail for a variety of reasons, primary of which is that I'm a shrink.
