Houstonist Cooks: Garlic Cheese Log

01282009_cheese.jpg There will be an important football exhibition on television this Sunday afternoon and your friends may want to congregate, eat, drink, yell at the tv set and take in every single new commercial. So, you should really get to making some heavy snacks and such to offer them. Like a cheese log, or ball - however you shape it, and some assorted crackers. Nothing says "I like you people" like cheese! This is simple to put together and can be wrapped tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerated until the afternoon of the game.

Garlic Cheese Log

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
1 8 oz package of cream cheese, softened
1 clove garlic, finely minced
1/2 teaspoon salt
Poppy seed

Combine cheeses until smooth. Add garlic and salt and mix well. Shape into two logs or balls. Roll in poppy seed to cover (warn Bubba not to eat a lot if he has an impending drug test, just saying). Chill and serve! This is a fine opportunity to break out the decorative spreaders that you keep forgetting you have!
