Blogist: Neon Poisoning

Blogist is a new feature in which Houstonist gives a shout-out to Texas-based blogs we enjoy.

neonpoisoning.jpg There's nothing more fascinating to us than to see Houston through an outsider's eyes, especially when that outsider is every bit as quirky and interesting as the city itself.

Neon Poisoning is the blog of a newly-minted Houstonian, by way of Atlanta, New Orleans and Las Vegas. Mr. Kimberly's blog is a scattered collection of other peoples' Flickr photos, affable musings on the city and -- in particular -- its art scene, and his own brief but quality recommendations on things to do around town.

One of our favorite aspects of Neon Poisoning is Mr. Kimberley's great eye for photographs, whether they're culled from the recently-opened Life Magazine archives or from Flickr. For that reason alone, the site is enjoyable on a purely eye candy level, if you're one of those who only reads the books for the pretty pictures. Of course, if you aren't just paddling in the shallow end, check out his reviews of local art galleries and museums, some of which are routinely overlooked by even native Houstonians.
