Daily-ist Tuesday: Kat Von D booksigning

020309_katvond.jpg For more than a decade, Nuestra Palabra has been working with Latino writers in Houston to help change the perception of Latino culture. They've worked with everyone from Houston's own author Gwendolyn Zepeda to world-renown actor Edward James Olmos to help usher in what they call Houston's "Latino Literary Renaissance."

Tonight Nuestra Palabra is hosting illustrated lady and star of the Discovery Channel's L.A. Ink, Kat Von D. Don't let her real name, Katherine von Drachenberg, fool you. Kat Von D is apparently of Argentine descent, and was born in Mexico. Von D got her start at a tattoo parlor at age 16, and was originally featured in the Discovery show Miami Ink where she developed such a following Discovery decided to give her her own show. L.A. Ink became the highest-rated show on the cable network, no doubt thanks to Von D's smokin' good looks and sharp wit.

Von D will be speaking and signing books tonight at the Barnes & Noble at Westheimer and Voss. Her latest book, High Voltage Tattoo, named after her California ink shop, is a "graphic perspective on today's global tattoo culture."
