Blogist: Swamplot

Blogist is a new feature in which Houstonist gives a shout-out to Texas-based blogs we enjoy.

020909_swamplot.jpg We've heard it said more than once that the official city bird of Houston is the crane (snort! get it?!?). Cheesebag jokes aside, real estate development is abundant in Houston, and Swamplot covers it all with swift wit and a proclivity for drama. Who knew Houston real estate could be such a juicy topic? From the financing train wreck that is the Sonoma development in the Rice Village and the soap opera worthiness of the River Oaks Shopping Center saga, to an exposé of Houston's dirtiest apartment, Swamplot at times feels like a guilty pleasure. Oh, how we love to hate Weingarten!

Never without an opinion, Swamplot says in their disclaimer:

We're trying something different here. It should be obvious in reading this site that Swamplot is not afraid to call a cheesy townhouse a cheesy townhouse.

And lest you think it's all irreverent snark, Swamplot provides useful information like what's going on with the toll lanes on the Katy Freeway. The most useful feature is that posts are tagged with corresponding zip codes, so you can search for drama news in your part of town.
