Catch a show tonight at Rudyard's and you'll be supporting both a local musician and independent music in throughout Texas.
Jay Crossley of the band Woozyhelmet is performing as part of a CD release party tonight at Rudz. Only 100 copies of his new solo album, Tiny Diamonds, will be available tonight, for free. In March, the album will be released and sold as a 7-inch, with free download of the whole album. You can listen to the title song from the album here.
The album was recorded thanks to financial support from The Anthony Foundation. Crossley was one of the foundation's 5 grant recipients this summer, which allowed him to record the album with Frank Davis (known for his work with the 13th Floor Elevators) at Frank's studio.
Much of the album was recorded with musician friends of Crossley, who were asked to contribute to songs they had not yet heard.
The record will also be the freshmen release for Soda Pop Sounds, a loose collective of musicians that Crossley and friend David Israel are trying to turn into a legitimate record label.
Tonight's show will also be a fundraiser to help pay for a number of shows corresponding with SXSW this year, organized by Crossley and featuring musicians from Houston, Austin, New York, and Baltimore.
David Israel, Giant Princess and Benjamin Wesley will also perform tonight.
