Blogist: Bayou City History

021609_bayoucityhistory.png Bayou City History started in 2006 as a way for Houstonian and local history buff J.R. Gonzales to chronicle (no pun intended) the findings of his research. After a year at Blogger.com, the blog moved to the Chron Commons, where it no doubt benefited from the newspaper's extensive archive of photos and stories.

Houstonist's favorite posts on Bayou City History are the ones featuring old photos. Houston's Great Flood of 1935, for example. And did you know that Houston used to have a monorail? Other posts focus on famous Houstonians of times past. Posts also include history mysteries. But perhaps the neatest thing about the blog is its commenters. Readers regularly write in with their own memories of Houston's past.
