H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of February 19th - 22nd, 2009

Here at H-Town Rock, we labor more over this little introductory paragraph than we do over the words that accompany a certain night's lineup. "Why is this?" you might ask. We don't have an answer really. Most of the time we just look over who'll be playing in Houston this weekend and spout off whatever enters our heads first. With any luck, we'll say something vaguely interesting that might actually spark one of our eleven readers to leave a comment, but we're not going to hold our breath. We just want you to know that there is a great deal of quality music rolling through our fair city over the next few days. Why don't you get out there and do something about it?

Let's be clear about this - the primary show that you should be attending this weekend is the Trail Of Dead show over at Walter's. Granted, if you prefer to see the band perform at Cactus Music around 5:30pm in the early evening before hitting another show later that night, we will understand. The Goods typically put on a great set of music, so The Mink makes for a palatable alternative (if you can ignore the cool kids trying to impress you with their disinterest). Furthermore, Dave Wrangler is spinning tonight at Boondocks, making this the sole weekend night that you might dare to brave the throngs of youngsters that populate that establishment. All of that aside, we will be at Walter's and we hope to see you there as well.

...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead at Cactus Music
...And You Will Know Us by The Trail Of Dead, Funeral Party, and Midnight Masses at Walter's on Washington
Austin Lounge Lizards at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
Bayou Monster, Little Brother Project, The Blue Threads, Soulever Lift, The Red Devil Line, House of Orange, and Woodpecker at Fitzgerald's
Electric Attitude, The Goods, The Wonderland Avenue, and Alkari at The Mink
Heads Up Houston Launch Party: featuring Dave Wrangler and more at Boondocks
Hell's Engine, Shit City High, Blower, and The Wrong Ones at Rudyard's
Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk at House of Blues
Killing Moth at Notsuoh
KTRU Battle of the Bands: featuring a variety of Rice-based folk bands at Lovett Undergrounds
Paula Nelson at Firehouse Saloon
The Suspects at The Continental Club

LorettaLynn.jpg
This actually isn't very fair - Loretta Lynn and Lucinda Williams playing in Houston on the same night and they're not sharing the stage. Why do the deities in charge of decent country music hate us so much? Seriously - there had to have been some way to align the stars properly so that these two iconic women, two of the top talents in their respective generations of country music, could have toured together so that people aren't forced to choose between these two legendary voices. If compelled to make a decision, we'd go old-school with Loretta and sing along with all of the blue-haired old ladies who will in attendance, but that doesn't mean we love Lucinda any less.

D.R.U.M. at Onion Creek Coffeehouse
Enrique Bunbury at House of Blues
The Failed Attempt at The White Swan

Also this Saturday-
The Ars Supernova @ Fitzgerald's
www.myspace.com/thearssupernova

On Saturday at Anderson Fair Matt The Electrician and Southpaw Jones will be playing. You should check it out. $10 cover.

These posts would probably be more helpful if they where more than 1 night before the show. Seems like if you are going to take the time to post show dates, you might as well throw out what is for the next week. Like what's going on this friday? Or do I need to wait until Thursday to find out?

Lavalevel, I don't know if you realize how much work goes into these posts. Adam didn't always do mid-week shows until it was requested by our awesome readers; it's a lot of extra effort, but we're happy to give our readers what they want.

With that in mind, give the guy a break. Recapping all of these shows in one post would take all day, not to mention they enormity of each post would take up all of the front page. Just check back on Thursday for the rest of the week. We're consistent like that. ;)

Oh I will, I always read these things. I was just sayin'. ok, so am I considered an awesome reader too? ;P
