Having seen Jay Farrar and Son Volt perform a couple times back in college, tonight will be a nice trip down memory lane. Granted, like most acts commonly associated with "alt-country," this band avoids that tag like the plague, but Son Volt achieves its escape from that dubious descriptor by easily and deftly moving its music through a wide gamut of traditional American music forms. This show should be quite excellent.

Songwriters Night: featuring Jackie Bristow, Noelle Hampton, Lise Liddell, Ben Mallot, and Andrew Moran at McGonigel's Mucky Duck

Wednesday, February 25th
Honestly, we want to poke a bit of fun at the three acts performing at Verizon Wireless this evening, but we decided that would simply be a bit too easy, especially since making tacky comments about nu-metal was cool back in 2003. Thankfully, mocking groups who consistently choose style over substance will never ever get old. Thus, unless, you're looking for another opportunity to pound Jager-shots and cheap beer while screaming your lungs out, we suggest you make other plans for this evening.

Slipknot, Coheed and Cambria, and Trivium at Verizon Wireless Theater
