H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of February 26th - March 1st, 2009

Welcome back to another edition of H-Town Rock. Each week, we scour concert listings at the various venues in our beloved city in hopes of bringing our readers the best and brightest of upcoming events. We never claim to be perfect, which is why we always encourage our eleven readers to contribute anything they might know that we may have missed. We run this feature because we love Houston and we want to see the Houston music scene receive the notoriety and attention that it very much deserves. Thus, we appreciate all of the comments left by our readers - it is through these suggestions that we learn how to best improve what we do so as to meet the needs of our readers. Without readers, we're just sitting our office, talking to ourselves, and that's always really awkward.

Thursday, February 26th
California Guitar Trio at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
Elefante at House of Blues
Gene Loves Jezebel, Pale, and DJ Ceeplus & the House of Bad Knives at The Meridian

Taking a look around town tonight, it seems that we have a host of great shows from which we can choose. Arthur Yoria has developed quite a fan base amongst his fellow artists around town, so it's always great to partake of a "musician's musician." In our humble opinion, the raw, bluesy indie-rock of The Goods will always make for a great night of music. Flogging Molly is returning to Houston to make up the show date it cancelled in last September's post-Ike aftermath, and guitar whiz Jonny Lang will be displaying his amazing digital dexterity at House Of Blues. Hooray - there's something for (almost) everyone!

Arthur Yoria at Rudyard's
Boy Boy at Boondocks
The Delta Spirit, Other Lives, and Dawes at Walter's on Washington
D.R.U.M., Fulton Read, and Puss and Boots Project at Last Concert Cafe
Flogging Molly at Verizon Wireless
The Goods, Female Demand, Jacob Meador, and Winter Wallace at Notsuoh
Jonny Lang and Sharon Little at House of Blues

Tonight, we want you to take our word for it - everyone should be at the DiverseWorks House for the Young Mammals Album Release Show. Not only are class acts like Buxton and Woozyhelmet opening the show, Houston should revel in the chance to support one of its more prominent, up-and-coming bands. If you want to say hello to us (or maybe even buy us a drink), this is where we will be. Granted, there's still plenty to do around town tonight. The Pretenders will be lighting up the stage over at House of Blues, while Warehouse Live will get its regular fix of the Special Sauce that is G. Love. We'd imagine that things will get a bit crazy over at Boondocks, but it will probably be a unique brand of crazy designed for a certain, highly specific sub-culture (don't say we didn't warn you).

G. Love & Special Sauce at Warehouse Live
The Guns of Detroit, The Baristas, Charger Fits, and Ellypseas at Notsuoh
The McKenzies at Cactus Music
My Education, Sad Like Crazy, and Exterminating Angels at Rudyard's
The Party!!!, Sober, Select, Nature, and Dayta at Boondocks
Patrice Pike Band at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
The Pretenders and American Bang at House of Blues
The Watermarks, Ladyheat, and We Were Wolves at The Mink
Wings Burn Away at Fitzgerald's
Young Mammals CD Release Show: featuring Woozyhelmet and Buxton at Aerosol Warfare/DiverseWorks House

Sunday, March 1st
Hamilton Loomis at McGonigel's Mucky Duck
Michelle Yom and Roberta Michel at Avant Garden
Street Dogs, Flatfoot56, Ashers, and Hell City Kings at Warehouse Live
Wednesday 13, Dogz On Parole, and Ethereal at The Meridian
