Weekend-ist March 6-8: Light Rail, Regatta, Little Joe

030609_LRPC.jpg It should be a nice relaxed weekend for enjoying the great outdoors. Here's what Houstonist has in store for ourselves:

FRIDAY

  • 5:30 p.m. — Houstonist Light Rail Pub Crawl. Starts at the Flying Saucer, where your first drink is free. Seriously, y’all. It’s going to be fun.
  • 7 p.m. — Aerosol Warfare’s Closing Reception for Paper Ballet and the Broken HeARTed Erotic Art Show, 2110 Jefferson #113.
  • 8 p.m. — Opening reception for The Boardroom, Art League Houston’s first exhibition of graffiti artwork. Featuring a DJ and the YA Crew break-dancers, at the Art League’s Front Gallery, 953 Montrose Blvd.

SATURDAY

  • 9 a.m. — 37th Annual Buffalo Bayou Regatta. Yes, people actually kayak the bayous of Houston. For fun. Stand on the sidelines along Allen Parkway or Memorial to watch Texas’ largest kayak and canoe race, 15 miles long. Awards include the Styrofoam Cup Trophy, for the most trash picked up along the way.The weather will be perfect.
  • PM — Jon Hogan, Houston-based outsider vagabond folk musician, performs at Town Hall Texas, a BYOB live-music roadhouse on private acreage near Conroe. $7 cover.

SUNDAY
