HMNS Special Lecture: The Birth of Christianity

And just in time for the Resurrection of Christ this weekend....

The Houston Museum of Natural Science presents a special lecture entitled The Birth of Christianity. Presented by April Deconick, Ph.D., Rice University.

Christianity was born out of the Jewish teachings of Jesus and James his brother at a time of social and political upheaval in ancient Palestine. Dr. April Deconick will examine the links between Judaism and Christianity. Archeological evidence will also discussed within this context.

Dr. Deconick is Isla Carroll and Percy E. Turner Professor of Biblical Studies at Rice University. Her research interests include the mapping of ways that the Jesus tradition emerges across literature and traditions.

This lecture is co-sponsored by Rice University's Glasscock School of Continuing Studies and is included in their course The Birth of Christianity: A Jewish Story, with media sponsorship by KUHF 88.7 FM.
