Head out to the Green tonight for "an evening of wit, laughter, and charm" with two great Houston writers, Katherine Center and Emily Fox Gordon. Audience members are invited to a reception with the authors following the reading.

Everyone is Beautiful
Katherine Center grew up in Houston and received an MA in Fiction from the University of Houston Creative Writing Program. Her first novel, The Bright Side of Disaster, received rave reviews in numerous publications, including People Magazine, USA Today, and Vanity Fair. BookPage named Katherine one of seven new writers to watch, and the paperback of Bright Side was a Breakout Title on special display at Target last spring. Katherine recently published an essay in Real Simple Family and has another essay forthcoming in the anthology Because I Love Her: 34 Top Women Writers on the Mother-Daughter Bond. Katherine will read from her new novel, Everyone Is Beautiful, "a loving and hilarious portrayal of marriage," according to Adriana Trigiani.

Emily Fox Gordon has published personal essays in Boulevard, Salmagundi, and The American Scholar, among other literary magazines. An essay about her hospitalization as a teenager at Austen Riggs formed the basis for her memoir Mockingbird Years (2000). Mockingbird Years was named a New York Times Notable Book and was chosen as one of Amazon.com's top ten memoirs for the year. It was subsequently translated into Hebrew and Chinese. Her second memoir, Are You Happy?, began, like its predecessor, as an essay. Her work has won two Pushcart Prizes and has been shortlisted in Best American Essays, and three of her essays were anthologized in the Anchor Essay Annual. Emily will read from her recently released first novel, It Will Come to Me, which Kirkus describes as "A well-observed and poignant exploration of middle aged angst."
