::Spacetaker Artist Speakeasy::

It's been a while since we've headed over to Winter Street Studios to check out what's poppin' at Spacetaker's HQ + Artist Resource Center. So tonight, bid farewell to your hard earned tax dollars and teabag Uncle Sam. Head to the Artist Speakeasy for some culture served up just the way we like it: FREE. (taxes not included.)
Every third Wednesday of the month at the Artist SPEAKeasy, Spacetaker hosts two to three artists from varying disciplines (visual, performing, literary, etc.) to present, in an informal atmosphere, creative dialogs/talks/presentations about their work followed by a question and answer session where the audience can glean further insight into the artist, the artist's aesthetic and creative process. The evening is designed not only to bring together artists and those who appreciate the arts, but also to introduce local artists to each other to encourage conversation and cross-disciplinary collaboration between artists and their chosen media.
Tonight's artists:
Michael Crowder: Crowder is a mixed media sculptor who exhibits across the US and internationally. Originally from New Orleans, he is currently based in Houston, Texas. His conceptually-driven sculpture often incorporates museum “art/ifacts” made of glass particles fused together in a variation of the ancient pâte de verre technique. Exploring ideas of fragility and impermanence, his work is sometimes cast using very ephemeral materials—from sugar or chocolate to marble dust or cigarette ashes.
Greg Dean:
For close to 20 years Greg Dean has worked in various capacities with various theaters and arts groups in Houston. Since 2003, he has been a company member of Mildred’s Umbrella Theater, appearing as Snelgrave in One Flea Spare, the Teacher in A Long History of Neglect, designing sets and sound for Rot, sound and video for Triptych, and directing, designing and acting in Things Being at the Worst,
Monica Vidal:Work depicts a small range of iconic images: tents, hair, stacks of spheres, and an arch shaped form I refer to as a Hive. It consists of works on paper done with graphite, ink, watercolor and gouache.
