Maggard Retiring as UH Athletic Director

coog.jpg Dave Maggard, who helped steer the University of Houston from a WAC also-ran to Conference USA juggernaut (well, except for basketball. Thanks, Memphis!), announced today that he will retire, after seven years as athletic director.

Maggard was well known for antagonizing the University of Texas (who have refused to play the Cougars in football for several years now, despite continuing to beat up on Rice), and for his positive effect on the graduation rate of student-athletes. He also hired current football coach Kevin Sumlin, and basketball coach Tom Penders.

An announcement about the effective date of his retirement, and the search for a replacement are forthcoming.
