H-Town Rock

For the Weekend of April 30th - May 3rd, 2009

There is a serious amount of music around town this week for you people to go experience. First of all, George Clinton will be playing at the House Of Blues on Thursday night, making this the first time that we'd actually be willing to pay HOB's parking and drink prices since Jay-Z helped open up the venue in Fall 2008. Friday is a packed night all on its own: Austin's Car Stereo (Wars) will be spinning at Boondocks, there's a J Dilla tribute show over at The Mink, Over The Rhine is at Warehouse Live, Fitzgerald's hosts two stages of solid local rock acts, Soulja Boy will take the stage at Verizon Wireless, and Spinal Tap will be unwigged at Jones Hall. Saturday promises more of the same as Joan Jett and The Blackhearts performs up at SHRP, Fleetwood Mac fills up the Toyota Center, and Houston faves The Sideshow Tramps entices people to partake of the food, drinks, and music at Mango's. Finally, if you missed Jandek's Sunday afternoon matinee on the first Sunday of April over at Rudyard's, the elusive Houston musician will playing over at DiverseWorks on Sunday evening, supported by MV & EE.

Our recommendations aside, unless you're going to be trekking up to the suburbs to take in the music of Dave Matthews or Kenny Chesney, we're fully in support of just about any show you plan to see this weekend. If anyone makes it out to Arena Theater for The O'Jays on Friday evening, we'd really like to hear your review of that show.
