Tonight is the kickoff of the Latin Wave Film Festival, the MFAH's yearly celebration of the newest and best filmmakers to come from Latin America.

Several films will be screened each day through Sunday, including the first film to produced in Panama. Many films are followed by discussions with the directors and producers, most of whom are first- and second-time filmmakers. Most of the films are subtitled in English.

The first film, "The Wind and The Water", screens at 5 p.m. tonight, and the kickoff celebration for the festival will take place in the Cullen Sculpture Garden just north of the museum at 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Houstonist thinks "Headless Woman", showing tonight at 7 p.m. and Saturday at 3:00 p.m., looks interesting.
